Format: All participants, whether attending the lecture, the simul or both must register for the event online on or before 12 PM on July 21. Persons requesting admittance thereafter will be accepted at the discretion of the organizer. Please email events.CSCA@gmail.com if you miss the registration deadline.

The free lecture will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 AM for all interested participants, players, parents, relatives, etc. All are welcome. All must register.

The Simultaneous Exhibition will start around 10:30 AM. The entry fee is $25 per player. The first 20 registrants for the simultaneous will face GM Kudrin. The next 20 players will face NM Koganov. The participating masters may accept more than 20 players each at their discretion. Anyone who registered for but is not included in the simultaneous due to space will be informed and refunded ahead of the event.

GM Sergey Kudrin: Connecticut Grandmaster Sergey Kudrin was born in the Soviet Union in 1959 and achieved Grandmaster title in 1984.

Sergey’s notable international wins include Copenhagen in 1983, Beer-Sheva in 1984 and Torremolinos in 1985. His international competition participation includes the 2005 World Cup (Khanty-Mansiysk), the 1999 FIDE Chess World Championship (Las Vegas), and the 2004 FIDE World Chess Championship (Tripoli).

Sergey achieved his peak FIDE rating of 2578 in July 2009.

In the United States, Sergey won the U.S. Open in 1984 and 2007. He won third place in the 2008 Frank K. Berry U.S. Chess Championship in Tulsa and finished third in the 2008 World Chess Live Grand Prix standings.

In Connecticut, GM Kudrin is a six-time State Champion, winning consecutive titles from 2004 to 2009, and the 2020 and 2022 Senior Champion. As Senior Champion, Sergey is representing Connecticut at the 2022 U.S. Chess Irwin National Tournament of Senior Champions later this month—his second time.

NM Mikhail Koganov: Connecticut National Master Mikhail Koganov is the 2019 Connecticut Senior Champion and three time Connecticut representative to the U.S. Chess Irwin National Tournament of Senior Champions, 2018, 2019 and 2021. He is Vice President of the Connecticut State Chess Association and a chess teacher and coach in private practice. His current U.S. Chess rating is 2224.

COVID-19 Protocols  – No on-site registration. Advance registration only and space is limited. Players may be required to wear masks in the playing area and elsewhere, whether or not vaccinated. All then current university COVID protocols will be observed. Additional information will be provided.

The event will begin at 9:30 AM with lecture. The simultaneous will begin at about 10:30 AM. Players who complete the simultaneous may depart or stay for pick up games. The event is expected to conclude once all simultaneous games are completed, expected at about 12 to 12:30 PM.

Refunds/Cancellation Policy: If you cannot play in this event, you may withdraw by email to events.CSCA@gmail.com no later than 11:59 PM on July 21. Refunds must be requested by email. No withdrawals or refund requests by telephone. There are no refunds for No-Shows. Refunds are subject to a $12 admin fee.
